STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES IN MATHEMATICS

Mathematics is among the most fascinating of all intellectual disciplines, the purest of all art forms, and the most challenging of games. The study of mathematics is not only exciting, but important: mathematicians have an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to society by helping to solve problems in such diverse fields as medicine, management, economics. government, computer science, physics, psychology, engineering, and social science.

Students at Northern Michigan University have research opportunities along with national and international travel to present their work.

U.P. HIGH SCHOOL MATH CHALLENGE
The Upper Peninsula High School Math Challenge is a peninsula-wide competition for students in grades 9-12.  Students compete on teams of four.  Schools may register as many teams as they care to.  For more information please clink on the link to to right . . .
 


ARGONNE NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

Each year 300 or more undergraduates from universities throughout the Midwest attend the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory for their Annual Argonne Symposium for Undergraduates in Science, Engineering and Mathematics. Many of the students present their research papers and publications to an audience of their peers, Argonne scientists, graduate students and university faculty.
